Overweight and obese adults and children are at greater risk for multiple health conditions such as Type 2 diabetes,  heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and certain cancers. Development of good nutrition and physical activity habits, and an environment that supports those habits, have the greatest potential to lead to a healthy weight. HPC maintains multiple programs that address healthy weight. These include direct service programs that focus on helping individuals to eat healthfully on a budget, and capacity-building and systems-change initiatives that ensure that communities have access to healthy food and safe places to be active.
